Obsolete to Absolutely Great: Cassette Tapes

Cassette Tapes Before

Okay, so I've transformed old CDs into dumbbells and I've taken old records and melted them into serving bowls...so it only makes sense I would turn my attention to old cassette tapes.

Back to Goodwill!   I found lots of these cassette tapes in the bargain bin and grabbed about 20 to play with.  This little craft project cost me a whopping $1 to try out.

Cassette Tape Box

And here's the finished project.  I made a cassette tape storage box.   It's all put together with a glue gun (so perfect in any crafting toolbox) and I think the end result is sorta fun.

Cassette Tape Box Lid

The top is just two cassette tapes glued together with a vintage bed glued on top as a knob.  I have no idea what I could store in here (been thinking facial tissues for a while now), but it might be a fun gift box for something.

Overall, the project took just 5 minutes to do.   Is it my best work?  No.   But is it fun?  Yes.

Danny love your great Idea's

Danny, cooool idea. I think this would make an awesome way to present a music gift card to some one. A little old school meets new school if it was a gift card for mp3's or what ever.

I think you could use the tape itself as tinsel. Or knit it into something.

Holy cow I think that is really cool. Don't donwplay the coolness factor of this.

I need to get a glue gun and then I am going to play with this idea myself. My Hubby will love it. We are total music geeks. This is a totally us project.

And an open cassette tape holder is a great way to display business cards.

Lol! That is too cool. Now where did I put my old Purple Rain tape?

I don't know how you come up with all of these ideas. I wish I was half as creative as you. Keep it up, your blog is the best!

This is really cute and super cheap with cassettes all over the secondhand shops. I'll be linking to this project.

I love the idea of using it as a box for an mp3 gift card. Because it already has holes in it, I can think of 2 cool ideas I'd use it for. Recharging station, and a yarn or twine holder. Great idea!

Have you heard of EcoGlue? It's the green version of superglue. Haven't tried it yet but plan to when I find the need.

We can get it at ACE and True Value here in Seattle.

Great gift box! Especially for an 80's party or something!

love the idea of putting facial tissues in there...esp. if you take the handle out, and break the bottoms of the cassette tapes a little so it creates a slot... :)

Hi Danny,

This is an awesome idea! I'd love to share this with my readers if that's ok.

Thanks for the great project idea!

aw how endearing! i love it.

by the way, finally caught the episode of top design that you were on, and i could tell you were unimpressed with some of the contestants' knowledge of eco living. it was actually pretty amusing, but frustrating of course that people are STILL so uninformed about living green. anyways, loved the jacket you had on! and bravo with the judging. :)

great idea!

I have an interesting dilemna for you... Later today I am picking up 18 scrabble boards - no letters included but will be getting about 80 of the letter tile holders.

Do you have any funky ideas on what I could use these for??? besides, picture frames and placemats?
