Eco Labor Day Picnic

Bambooplates0006

In the September issue of Better Homes & Gardens, my debut column (woo hoo!) gives simple tips on how to green this Labor Day with our last (sad!) summer festivities.

So, today being Labor Day, I thought I would share my favorite idea that also happens to be in my book "Simply Green Parties."

Now, we all know that using reusable plates is the absolute greenest solution, but if you must---and only if you MUST---use disposable plates, why not think as green as possible there?

There are lots of eco-friendly options out there that range in all types of colors, materials and price points.   Whole Foods sells a line called 365 that features sugar cane pulp molded into durable plates and bowls.    And Recycline makes colorful plates (pictured in bright green above) made from recycled yogurt cups.

A quick tip: why not jazz up the plates by using a hole punch to cut holes along the edges?   It's so attractive and addictively easy to do.

Great idea, I'll be linking to this!

Love the hole punching!

Bambu makes a bamboo veneer line that is compostable. We used them for my daughters' first birthday party.

Its such a fancy idea! I'll be blogging about this for sure :)
