Hidden Treasures
What a surprise!
One of the fun things about owning an older home is that you never know what you're going to find. Case in point: I was looking around the craft studio bathroom and decided to remove some things off the wall to give the room a good cleaning. After I removed the mirror, I found this little box in the wall! A safe!
Oh, what treasures will I find in the safe? Will it be a stack of cash? Diamonds? Gold? Jewelry? I actually felt a little excited at this moment...just wondering: What on Earth could be in there?
Game over! All that I found was this empty bank envelope for "First National Bank." It looked old, but was empty.
But still: how fun is this? Restoring an old home can give you unexpected surprises here and there: some good, some bad. All in all, it's worth it.

And of course you will be leaving that hole open...right??? We found some newspaper, the SF Chronicle sports section, the 49ers vs the Oakland Raiders, when we changed a window placement.

A hidden safe?? Oh my, how fun! I would have been shaking!! And again, it must be the scrapbooker in me, but even the empty bank envelope would have been a welcome treasure! Real ephemera! Woot!

That is a really cool discovery! I think you should frame the bank envelope (with a salvaged frame, of course). Then hang it back over the hidden safe -- it would be tres meta. : )

How cool! I hope that you hid something in the box yourself. We opened up a wall in our cabin and found a vintage 7up bottle which I use as a vase on my deck.

That's cool! When we ripped down the old fireplace in our house, we found the graduation photo of an unknown teenage girl. We framed it and keep it on our new mantel.
