Help me Choose a Countertop

Img_0332

I've started work on my restoration project home in Pennsylvania and I'm slowly and surely starting to make decisions on appliances, flooring, paint colors, heating/cooling systems and so much more.

One area I'm a bit stuck is on the countertops.

I do know that I want to use Ice Stone countertops for the kitchen and possible in the craft room.   Ice Stone is great because it's made from crushed recycled glass and concrete, creating a durable and beautiful countertop that's similar to the look of terrazo flooring.     It's a green choice because it's VOC-free and made from recycled materials.  It's a stylish choice because it looks absolutely gorgeous!

So, here are the color picks.    What do you think is the right choice for this kitchen?

"Freezing Mist"

Graphite_ridge

"Graphite Ridge"

Pistachio_pearl

"Pistachio Pear"

I'm leaning towards Graphite Ridge.... but would love to hear what you think is your favorite pick.   Lots more colors to see on IceStone's website, too.    www.icestone.biz

Pistachio Pear would tie in the greens of the loungeroom, I think.

I really like the pistachio pear, myself. I think it would coordinate best with the rest of the area. Good luck!!!

The Jade Snow, on the website, looks good too!

Pistachio Pear .... DEFINITELY!
Looks right with the dark wood, right for the era of the house, just, well, right.
Graphite ridge feels a bit 80's to me, but maybe that's just me. Good luck with it. the house looks fab.

Hey...looks great! I love these countertops, never heard of them. I like pistachio too, but it seems like something I might get tired of. To stay with greens, maybe jade snow...i could see myself living with that one for a while. Sage pearl is also kind of cool. I vote jade snow.

My parents are redoing their lake house after a flood that no one noticed for months. They have the same dark beams and tongue and groove ceiling you have. They are stressing over cabinet color...I can't wait to see yours come together. Are you keeping the cabinets you have? They look great.

Definitely the graphite. It is so versatile. If you decide to change the color scheme of your kitchen at some point in the future it will go with almost any other choices you make.

oh i love each one, but definitely Pistachio Pear. it's just beautiful.

I think Pistachio Pear would work best here. Graphite Ridge is too dark and heavy looking, and Freezing Mist is too "meh." But Pistachio Pear has a warmth to it that will really open up the space.

Danny,
I'm a first time reader, and I will definitely continue to read. You have the greatest ideas!! Will have to make some soap now!! And I think I'm leaning toward the Pistachio Pear. But then...I love green!

You should go with your instinct. Graphite is best. I agree with Micheal. It will allow you to change your color scheme easily. Personally I love it because it reminds me a little of the counter tops in a typical high school science class. Once again, thank you for introducing me to a new idea.

The graphite was my initial pick, though in combination with the dark wood in that room it might be too dark overall. Still, it's probably more versatile than the pear, pretty as that is. Did you consider just one shade lighter (fogbound)?

Very cool countertop picks - I do believe the Graphite Ridge is not the right color, as it will tend to darken the room if you plan on keeping the cabinets a brown hue. I think the Pistachio Pear would warm the room and would add a friendly, crisp feeling. Can't wait to see which color chosen will end up looking like! I am sure your choice will be the right one.

I like the pistachio pear and it would fit the house necily, but I would be a little hesitant to use it for something as permanent as a countertop. I think the graphite would be best, you can lighten the whole room with accessories and change up the color scheme easily. Either would look nice though!

I'm for the pistachio pear. Why? If you're planning to leave all that beautiful wood, it would compliment it perfectly. And I think the graphite would end up too dark. Freezing mist would look a little too cold. The pistachio pear would make the kitchen look warm, but very stylish.

Pistachio Pear!!

Forest Fern!

Love the pistachio pear. It has a very light, airy quality suitable for a kitchen.

pistachio pear definitely. but i'm a green freak

chalk my vote up for pistacho pear..
i'd be afraid with all the dark wood work that graphite ridge may be too much dark... but then this is coming from someone who's whole living room is "brush meadow green" so i'm slighly partial to the greens... :)

Before I scrolled all the way down and saw your top choice, I picked the graphite ridge. I think it is the right richness to go with your dark cabinets, which I think I remember you saying you are keeping as is. The green IS lovely, but I agree with those who have said you'll tire of it more quickly. Maybe use it in the craft room?

I vote for pistachio pear also... I have a few FLOR rugs throughout my house in a very light green like that, and at first I was afraid that the color would be too limiting, but it turns out that it's very neutral.

Where did you get your area rugs in the living room? I love the colors.

I like Pistachio Pear because the green complements the wood colors in the room and would give it an earthy feel.

Pistachio will tie the rooms well together. I think I like Freezing Mist best personally.

Pistachio Pear would be the choice for me. It would be so complimentary to the woodwork and not too dark. I'm partial to green anyway. It's a great natural neutral and goes with everything. Looking forward to seeing the transformation no matter what choice you make:~D

Pistachio Pear! It's so pretty! Green's easier on the eyes.
