On my new DVD Simple Steps to a Greener Home, there's a fun segment about choosing flooring for your home. For me, one find was this oriental rug from Gaiam.
First, I loved the color of this rug and the vibrant green color. It's a mix of traditional design with a spin: a younger, hipper, cooler version of an oriental rug.
But what makes it green beyond the color is that it's made from recycled soda bottles, all handwoven and remade into a plastic rug. Now, being plastic, means it's washable....all you have to do is take it outside, hose it down, let it dry and put it back. Try doing that with a wool rug!
These rugs come in a variety of colors and sizes and are not expensive at all. I'm thinking of buying a few and stacking them here and there. Right now, I'm just thinking..... doing, is a whole other thing...

I've been loving your blog and reading it daily. Can you tell me how the rugs you featured today feel underfoot--soft or plastic-y? They seem to be just what I'm looking for.

My question is the same as the one above -- who does it feel underfoot? Seems like a good idea for our litchen which is old, lovely but uneven hardwood.
Thanks so much!

I was just curious, wouldd such a rug have VOCs, or offgassing, which I've heard can be a problem with plastics and paints, etc?

I love this rug... I would like to try to find the exact same rug, but the link is not working for me and I cannot find this same rug on the Gaiam website.
If you could drop me the link, that would be wonderful.

I really like this rug but I'm looking for a runner (90 x 23) and also a small rug that matches for my sink in the kitchen. Does anyone know of where I could find these? Thanks

I have same questions as above:
(1) feel underfoot
(2) off-gassing
(3) a LINK -- the web link given doesn't function -- also this design is NOT available at VIVA TERRA
It'd be great to get this info

Since these aren't made with new plastic, they shouldn't be off-gassing.
The eBay dude does have some.
