The Village of Cards
The folks from LIFE magazine were here recently shooting my house for an upcoming Christmas cover story. Translation? I had to decorate my house in early November for Christmas.
But seeing how I love the holidays, I really didn't mind. One idea I had was to recycle old holiday cards into a pop-up holiday village of homes, trees, fences, etc. It couldn't easier to do: just collect tons of cards, cut out windows & doors, and tape the whole thing together.
The fluffy snow? I took an old bed pillow and ripped it open. The polyester filling on the inside is perfect to make it look all wintery in your card village.
I think this is a fun project to do with kids. To see more ideas, look for the DEC. 8th edition of LIFE magazine. It's in newspapers all over the country or visit www.life.com.

Brilliant idea could actually be a WIP and used to display cards as they come in. Thanks.

That is so cute a few girlfriends and I are making villages right now too and you'll be glad to know I am using the cast off mats from a framing shop for mine- they bundle up big boxes of the cast offs from time to time and sell the lot cheap u know the pieces left over from their framing projects- there are tons of uses for these from drawing on to matting smaller pictures to well now building villages.. I'll give you a hollar when I get mine done. But I so love the idea of using the christmas cards I just hate throwing them out each year and to do a miniature set oh I can't wait. What an inspiration you are decor wise and green wise!! Happy Day

I also wanted to say I too tear up old bed pillows and reuse their stuffing LOL
I guess I try to go green more than I thought.
