Biography

DANNY SEO
Best-selling author, columnist, television personality and radio host, Danny Seo is the nation’s pioneer of environmental lifestyle and the country’s leading teacher on green, modern living. Raised in Reading, Pennsylvania, at a very young age, Danny began championing on behalf of our Earth’s natural biodiversity, by starting an environmental group on his 12th birthday with just a few friends and $23. Before his 18th birthday (which, coincidentally is also Earth Day), he led the country’s largest teenage environmental organization and spearheaded worldwide campaigns earning him the Albert Schweitzer Reverence for Life Award before he even graduated High School.

When he was 21, a Washington Post reporter requested an interview with Danny to discuss environmental activism among young people. He invited her over for lunch, where he prepared an all-organic meal set in his beautifully decorated home. When the profile came out, it wasn’t about activism at all, but about the idea that green living could be chic, and that style and sustainability do not need to be mutually exclusive from each other. It was that cover story about Danny’s unique eco-style that transformed his everyday way of living into a lifestyle brand.
Since his beginnings, Danny has received tremendous accolades, and was named one of "40 Under 40" to watch by Crain's New York Business. In 1999, in an award of a lighter note, People magazine named Danny one of the “50 Most Beautiful People in the World.” Danny has also traveled the world and has been honored for his work with awards from the President’s office in both South Korea and Taiwan (where his books have been translated and are bestsellers). Recently the San Francisco Chronicle profiled Danny boasting, “the next Martha Stewart is young, green and a guy.” Time said he’s, “a domestic do-gooder.” And USA Today raved, “Say ‘environment’ to Danny Seo, and it's as if you've punched the word into the search engine Google: Out roars an avalanche of ideas and references that threatens to scramble your brain.” Vogue says, "...And where people once solved their entertaining quandaries by asking, ‘What would Nigella [Lawson] do?’ They now turn to Danny Seo . . .”

As a major presence for environmental lifestyle, Danny has appeared on such national television shows as “Oprah,” “Today,” “Live with Regis and Kelly,” “The Early Show,” and “The View” to name a few.

In 2006, Danny launched his Simply Green book series, (HarperCollins) all are beautifully illustrated guides with full-color photography about everyday, ecological living. Since the age of 19, Danny has penned six lifestyle books---with over 500,000 copies in print---that have become worldwide bestsellers. Danny is also Editor-at-Large for Country Home magazine, where his column, “Fresh Thinking,” is read every month by over 7 million people. He was also the guest co-editor of Elle magazine’s “green” issue (May 2007).

In January 2007, Danny released Simple Steps to a Greener Home, the companion DVD to the TV series he created, Simply Green With Danny Seo. In June, his first HGTV special Red, Hot & Green aired featuring simple and stylish solutions how any homeowner can living with sustainability and style.

Danny is a popular speaker and has given keynote addresses and led workshops all over the world. He was the commencement speaker for UC Berkeley’s College of Natural Resources in 2006 and has given keynotes at over 200 schools and prestigious events including Stanford, the College of William & Mary, Northwestern University, and the State of the World Forums.

In March, 2007, Danny appeared on the cover of Motto magazine, a leading business magazine dedicated to showcasing people who live with purpose, passion and profit.
